@ocdtrekkie@mastodon.social Oh, and Chicago is shortlisted in cities to escape from Texas to. Any thoughts on that, if thatâs in your backyard? đ No pressure, just curious. It occurred to me today that we could use Flyâs home base advantage to poke around there ourselves. I knew there was a presence there, just not how substantial it was and had intended to ask.
@ocdtrekkie@mastodon.social Glad to hear that. Theyâve treated me better than just about everyone Iâve ever worked for. I keep waiting for the other shoe to drop, but it hasnât yet, so when I hear more good things it makes me hope the other shoe wonât drop for a long while, if ever. đ
Employment papers are officially signed. I start with fly.io on June 5.
Got my first ever grown-ass adult job offer where someone could both actually pay me as much as Iâm worth and afford enough of me to make a difference in my life.
@ocdtrekkie@mastodon.social No idea, but thanks for giving me something to search for. So far Iâve been reading what feel like fairly generic âHow to get your TWAIN scanner running under Windowsâ articles that could just as easily apply to any device with installable drivers, scanner or not.
@ocdtrekkie@mastodon.social To be clear, it gives me a âDriver typeâ dropdown where TWAIN is my only available choice. Who knows whether that actually means, well, anything in the absence of any other options. đ
So I have this old Brother 920DW mobile scanner from 4-5 years back and figured Iâd get it running with my new, modern Windows 11 laptop. Except either Iâm teh dumb, or thereâs no standard way to get this working. Does anyone know?
Maybe Iâm the only weirdo who does this, but I periodically take a trip through the junkmail folder to make sure nothing ended up there by mistake, and damn if it isnât a blood-pressure-inducing 10 minutes. The FBI wants to inform me, complete with letterhead-style email header, that Iâve won the international lottery. Because, uh, thatâs a thing the FBI does now I guess. Others want my trust, or to shower me with money. The Texas Fertility Center wants my, uh, input on some form or other. I dunno, ainât clicking that link to find out more. Someone wanted to sell me something that was âlike an Easter miracle, but actually AI.â Given the generally sorry state of AI, I think Iâd rather have an Easter miracle.
TFW you finally fix the pathfinding bug youâve been blocked on for months, where enemies got stuck against walls or in doorways, buy just cheating. If a pathfinding entity gets stuck, it just defies physics and teleports to the next cell on its path. Fortunately I think the math is close enough that these jumps are probably minor/unnoticeable, but I donât like that I canât just use a character controller because it doesnât exist and writing one blind requires more sanity than I have to spare.
