In-reply-to » @ocdtrekkie Glad to hear that. They've treated me better than just about everyone I've ever worked for. I keep waiting for the other shoe to drop, but it hasn't yet, so when I hear more good things it makes me hope the other shoe won't drop for a long while, if ever. 😀

@ocdtrekkie@mastodon.social Oh, and Chicago is shortlisted in cities to escape from Texas to. Any thoughts on that, if that’s in your backyard? 😀 No pressure, just curious. It occurred to me today that we could use Fly’s home base advantage to poke around there ourselves. I knew there was a presence there, just not how substantial it was and had intended to ask.

Got my first ever grown-ass adult job offer where someone could both actually pay me as much as I’m worth and afford enough of me to make a difference in my life.

@ocdtrekkie@mastodon.social No idea, but thanks for giving me something to search for. So far I’ve been reading what feel like fairly generic “How to get your TWAIN scanner running under Windows” articles that could just as easily apply to any device with installable drivers, scanner or not.

In-reply-to » @nolan I'm surprised if you got it to work with TWAIN, other scanning apps didn't inherently work with it. If you got that far, I'd expect you to be golden. Usually if you're going to have a driver problem, it just won't recognize it as a scanner at all.

@ocdtrekkie@mastodon.social To be clear, it gives me a “Driver type” dropdown where TWAIN is my only available choice. Who knows whether that actually means, well, anything in the absence of any other options. 😀

So I have this old Brother 920DW mobile scanner from 4-5 years back and figured I’d get it running with my new, modern Windows 11 laptop. Except either I’m teh dumb, or there’s no standard way to get this working. Does anyone know?

Maybe I’m the only weirdo who does this, but I periodically take a trip through the junkmail folder to make sure nothing ended up there by mistake, and damn if it isn’t a blood-pressure-inducing 10 minutes. The FBI wants to inform me, complete with letterhead-style email header, that I’ve won the international lottery. Because, uh, that’s a thing the FBI does now I guess. Others want my trust, or to shower me with money. The Texas Fertility Center wants my, uh, input on some form or other. I dunno, ain’t clicking that link to find out more. Someone wanted to sell me something that was “like an Easter miracle, but actually AI.” Given the generally sorry state of AI, I think I’d rather have an Easter miracle.

TFW you finally fix the pathfinding bug you’ve been blocked on for months, where enemies got stuck against walls or in doorways, buy just cheating. If a pathfinding entity gets stuck, it just defies physics and teleports to the next cell on its path. Fortunately I think the math is close enough that these jumps are probably minor/unnoticeable, but I don’t like that I can’t just use a character controller because it doesn’t exist and writing one blind requires more sanity than I have to spare.
