In-reply-to » @ocdtrekkie@feditips constantly throwing "Tucker Carlson" and "conspiracy theory" around doesn't lend any weight to your argument BTW.

@bitflipped@mastodon.world@feditips@mstdn.social If you think it undermines, you need to understand how the grift works. Because this is the exact style. Invent a conspiracy, and since thereā€™s no proof of it, ask about it! Followers who believe youā€™re an authority will accept it as fact regardless of the fact that nobody ever said it happened.

In-reply-to » @ocdtrekkie@feditips ok good, we have established that there are no deals. Now I'd like an answer to the question that @feditips asked.

@bitflipped@mastodon.world@feditips@mstdn.social ā€¦Itā€™s been answered already. The dude is running a company and writing the software and dealing with running like two servers under massive load. I imagine Eugen has been things to do than dance every time someone invents some conspiracy nonsense.

In-reply-to » @ocdtrekkie@oliphant@thisismissem What Iā€™d like to eventually see is an additional ā€œgenerate your ownā€ option that lets you pick trusted and bias sources yourself. Trusted sources are concatenated and de-duped to build a large ā€œbankā€ of blocks, and bias sources whittle that down to the most-blocked instances.

@Seirdy@pleroma.envs.net@thisismissem@hachyderm.io@oliphant@oliphant.social Yeah thatā€™d be awesome. I also think eventually blocking needs to look a bit more like a network firewall, where youā€™d have various types of threats (including IPs, individual user patterns, etc.) that you can subscribe to feeds of and Mastodon just does :something intelligent: with it.

In-reply-to » @ocdtrekkie@b0rk My early Python experience, which soured me on that entire ecosystem for a long time, was how offensively baroque their first contact experience was in contrast. You need to use an installer to install and installer, and then you use that installer to install a different installer", yes this is definitely going to end well.

@mhoye@mastodon.social@b0rk@social.jvns.ca The first step in updating Visual Studio is also often to update the Visual Studio Installer. D:

In-reply-to » @tommertron harm is that they practically destroyed XMPP when it was rapidly growing. It never benefits a company to be just a single server in a federated network and not having control over it. Imagine, how can they make money by displaying ads and spying on users, when users can just jump to another server and avoid all of that?

@takeda@techhub.social@tommertron@masto.yttrx.com This is a weird take, XMPP was never growing wildly outside of the couple large companies who implemented it. XMPP basically didnā€™t exist except for the fact that Google Talk used it, so unsurprisingly, it died when Google stopped talking to it.

In-reply-to » Oh okay so Twitter stops working and y'all start posting again here like you won't run back to that shithole the moment it's working. lmao.

@ We do permanently gain people each time though. I think our onboarding is rough enough that sometimes people just kinda bounce off. Each wave is another chance.

In-reply-to » @ocdtrekkie@BlackAzizAnansi *shrug* itā€™s common sense that Facebook is a threat to democracy. To say otherwise is either naive or disingenuous. There lives your lies, disinformation and panic. Keep that mess out of the #fediverse.

@boiglenoight@universeodon.com@BlackAzizAnansi@mas.to Google is a threat to democracy, Facebook is just a privacy issue with questionable likelihood of surviving the next five years.

In-reply-to » @BlackAzizAnansi It's Facebook, one of the worst companies home to the most uninformed communities. If a Mastodon instance will #fediblock a toxic instance, #Meta shouldn't get a pass just because it's FB.

@boiglenoight@universeodon.com@BlackAzizAnansi@mas.to Meta shouldnā€™t get any special treatment, but thereā€™s also no reason for the lies, disinformation, and panic people have created over it showing up either.

In-reply-to » #homelab folks: I want to move away from Nextcloud. Currently considering either Resilio Sync (sadly not open source) and Syncthing (sadly no iPhone app). Mainly looking to automatically backup iPhone images and do some normal document stuff. Is Resilio worth it for the price? Any alternatives that I missed?

@ruhrscholz@toot.kif.rocks Sandstorm.io Davros grains should work with Nextcloud and WebDAV clients. Setup is a bit pickier than other solutions but itā€™s pretty much fire and forget after that.

In-reply-to » @endrift are mastodon.online the same people as m.s.? sorry, Iā€™m new here and itā€™s a bit hard to figure out šŸ„²

@ Both servers are operated by the same organization, but itā€™s a different server, and would not necessarily be defederated at the same time as mastodon.social, even if it likely would follow the same general policies and practices.

In-reply-to » @virtualbri@ Don't get me wrong, I'm a sucker for continuity. But yeah, no one wants to watch a modern show with shoe polish Klingons and Halloween costume Gorn. Shows have to adapt to stay relevant. Same thing with the timeline why would people be mad the timeline getting fixed to be not provably wrong?

@mikey@friendsofdesoto.social@virtualbri@mastodon.online@ Honestly the SNW folks have done an absolutely masterclass in how to balance continuity with updated visuals and storytelling. Season 1 of Discovery was a really harsh reintroduction to that era of canon but SNW has gotten the mix just right.
